How Does Centralized Air Conditioning Work?

Centralized air units work by having a blower that draws the hot air in your home through the return ducts and into the air handler. When the air enters the handler, it first goes through a filter to remove unwanted dirt and debris. Then, it passes over an evaporator coil that extracts the heat and moisture from the air. This just leaves clean and cooled air that is recirculated throughout the ductwork in your home. This cooling process is how centralized, portable, and window air conditioners operate.

How Do Geothermal Heat Pumps Work?

Many people are familiar with the fact that a geothermal heat pump can be utilized for both heating and cooling a home. However, understanding the mechanics behind it can be a bit confusing at first. You should think of a heat pump as simply a unit that pumps or moves heat. Whether heat is inside or out, the heat pump is capable of moving it to the other place.

So, when it comes to air conditioning, the geothermal heat pump works to remove the heat from inside of your home. These heat pumps have an indoor air handler and an outdoor unit that is referred to commonly as the pump. The outdoor unit circulates refrigerant that works to absorb and release heat. When in cooling mode, the heat pump will pass air from inside of your home over the evaporator coil that will remove the heat from the air. This heat is expelled outdoors.
